Bedale
Bedale is situated in the ideal location for tourists, right on the doorstep of not one but two National Parks; The North York Moors and The Yorkshire Dales. Tourism is becoming increasingly important in the area which is reflected by the many cafes, pubs and shops for visitors to explore on Bedale’s pretty main street.
There is plenty to see and do here in Bedale. Bedale museum has a wealth of local history and artefacts for you to enjoy from artwork to toys and costumes. Bedale also has an Ice House, which was previously used for storing food in centuries gone by; now only open once a year for visitors to explore. There is also a Leech House, an eighteenth century apothecary’s store for leeches in the days where they were used in all kinds of medicine.
Children will love Big Sheep Little Cow farm and petting zoo as well as Thorpe Perrow Arboretum – woodland garden, bird of prey and mammal centre. The more adventurous visitors should try nearby Lightwater Valley Theme Park, which boasts the longest rollercoaster in Europe lasting an astonishing 6 minutes!
