Hawes
Situated in the heart of Wensleydale, the bustling market town of Hawes has plenty of craft shops and cafes for visitors to try.
Although Hawes is quiet, there are several attractions nearby worth a visit. The Dales Countryside Museum, is located in the former Station Yard and is devoted to farming, knitting, lead mining and other industries from the past. A trip to the Wensleydale Creamery is a unique experience; particularly if you’re a fan of ‘Wallace and Gromit.’ As you might imagine, the creamery is a very popular. The Ropemakers at Town Foot will show you how skipping ropes, washing lines and church bell ropes are traditionally made.
There is ample accommodation provided as Hawes is very popular with walkers. Bed and Breakfast or pub accommodation can be found in and around the town and there are several hotels both on the main streets and in the countryside. Self catering holiday cottages are also available. Located on the A684 between Sedbergh and Leyburn, Hawes is the ideal location for exploring the northern part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
