Kirkby Stephen

Home > Kirkby Stephen

Kirkby Stephen is a small market town, popular for it's parish church locally known as the Cathedral of the Yorkshire Dales. It is built on the sight of an Old Saxon church and contains many relics, including the 8th century relic; a Loki stone, of which only 2 are in existance in Europe today.
Local markets are held in the town and it has some notable antique shops which serve as a base for the walking tours. The Railway station which serves Kirkby Stephen is actually located a mile out of the town and is on the Settle-Carlisle mainline.
There are plenty of places to stay including guest houses centrally located offering bed and breakfast, B and B's outside the town in neighbouring villages offering something a little quieter, and self-catering accommodation in cottages and converted farmhouses. The town also hosts one of the oldest youth hostels in the country, and due to the banning of lorries is a place where you can be guaranteed peace and traquility. Kirkby Stephen has excellent road links from the A685 enabling fast access to all parts of the UK.
